Overview
What LVT is and why homeowners choose it
Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a layered vinyl floor with a printed design layer and a clear wear layer on top. It reproduces timber planks, herringbone and stone convincingly, while being warmer underfoot, quieter and far more tolerant of water than real wood or laminate.
Urban Floors supplies and fits both LVT systems: click (floating) and gluedown (bonded to a prepared subfloor). Both systems are offered in underfloor heating compatible options. Which one is right depends on your subfloor, the room and the look you want; Ashton will tell you honestly at the free measure.
LVT is only as good as what is underneath it. Every installation starts with a subfloor check, and where screeding or ply boarding is needed, Urban Floors supplies the materials and does the preparation itself.
Who it's for
- Kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and open-plan living spaces
- Homes with underfloor heating
- Households with children or pets wanting a practical, wipe-clean floor
- Anyone wanting a herringbone or wood look without the upkeep of real timber
Get it right first time
Why LVT fails when it is rushed
Subfloor shows through
LVT is thin. Bumps, dips and old adhesive in the subfloor telegraph through the surface and show as ridges in raking light.
Joints open up
Click LVT on an uneven floor flexes at the joints. Over time joints can lift or separate.
Adhesive failure
Gluedown LVT needs a clean, sound, level base. On a poor base the bond fails and tiles lift.
Wrong system for the room
Choosing click where gluedown is better (or the reverse) leads to problems with heating, moisture or large open areas.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Laying LVT straight over an unprepared floor
- Assuming every LVT is underfloor heating compatible
- Choosing purely on the sample without considering the room and subfloor
- Buying LVT online first: Urban Floors only fits products it supplies

In detail
Click vs gluedown LVT and design options
Click LVT
Planks lock together and float over a suitable underlay. Quick to install and a good fit for many living spaces once the subfloor is flat.
Gluedown LVT
Each plank or tile is bonded to a smoothed subfloor. Very stable, suits large and heated areas, and allows designs like herringbone with crisp borders.
Underfloor heating
Both click and gluedown systems are available in underfloor heating compatible options. Product choice is confirmed against your heating system at the measure.
Herringbone, plank and tile
LVT comes as long planks, herringbone blocks and stone-effect tiles, letting you match the floor to the period and style of the house.
