Overview
How click LVT works
Click LVT planks have a profiled edge that locks each plank to the next. The floor 'floats' over a suitable underlay rather than being glued down, which makes installation faster and less disruptive than a bonded floor.
The click system relies on a flat base. If the subfloor dips or rises, the joints flex every time someone walks over them, and that is where problems start. That is why Ashton checks flatness at the free measure and includes any preparation needed in the fixed price.
Click LVT is supplied by Urban Floors in underfloor heating compatible options, and fitted with expansion gaps, trims and thresholds planned in advance so doorways finish cleanly.
Who it's for
- Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and open-plan spaces
- Homeowners wanting a quicker install with minimal disruption
- Rooms where the subfloor is already flat or can be prepared
- Homes with compatible underfloor heating
Get it right first time
Common click LVT problems, and their causes
Bouncing or hollow sound
Usually caused by an uneven subfloor or unsuitable underlay. Prepared properly, click LVT feels solid underfoot.
Gaps or peaking joints
Missing expansion gaps or a poor base put pressure on joints, causing them to open or lift.
Untidy edges and doorways
Click floors need planned trims and thresholds. Improvised finishes are the first thing you notice.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Laying click LVT over an uneven floor to save on preparation
- Using the wrong underlay for the product
- Forgetting expansion gaps under door frames and around the room
- Not confirming underfloor heating compatibility

In detail
Getting click LVT right
Subfloor flatness
Flatness is checked at the measure. Where needed, screeding or ply boarding is carried out with materials supplied by Urban Floors.
Underlay
Click LVT is laid on an underlay suitable for the product, supplied with the floor.
Large open areas
Very large or heated spaces may suit gluedown better. Ashton will tell you if that is the case rather than force a click floor.
Click vs gluedown
Click is quicker and floats; gluedown is bonded and very stable. See the LVT gluedown page for comparison.
